Do metal roofs get easily damaged by hail?

People think metal roofs are more vulnerable to damage during storms. However, asphalt shingles can be knocked off in the
event of an extreme hailstorm, and most hail will not dent or cause significant damage on top of them unless there are severe conditions like hurricanes. In addition, metal roofs have structural strength much more robust than other materials- unlike asphalt shingles which only have weatherproofing granules to defend against elements such as hail from solid winds.
